Choosing the right midwife is one of the most important decisions a family can make when preparing for birth. In Contra Costa County, there are only four licensed midwives currently serving families—and two of them are right here at Aquarius Midwifery in Pleasant Hill.

We are proud to be part of that small circle of licensed providers. What makes our practice unique is not only our clinical training and licensure, but also our deep personal roots in Contra Costa County.

Born and Raised in Contra Costa Costa County

Both of us were born and raised here in Contra Costa County. We grew up in this community, went to school here, and built our families here. These aren’t just the streets we drive to work each day, this is home.

Because of those deep roots, we bring something to midwifery care that goes beyond medical skill: a profound understanding of the people, and culture that shape Contra Costa families.

We know the neighborhoods, the hospitals, and the local support networks. We know what it means to balance busy Bay Area lives with the desire for personalized, holistic care. And most importantly, we are invested in the long term wellbeing of the families we serve because this is our community, too.

There are other midwives who serve Contra Costa families, but many of them commute from hours away. While they may offer good care, they don’t have the same day-to-day connection to this community or the same investment in its families.

Meet the Midwives

Angela

Angela was born in Walnut Creek and attended high school in Concord. Her deep ties to the community continued when her younger son was born at her childhood home in Concord in 2014. While her older son was born in Bakersfield (we won’t hold it against him!), her heart and her roots have always been here in Contra Costa County. Angela continues to live, raise her family, and serve her community right where she started.

Kathryn

Kathryn was born in Concord, grew up in Bay Point and later attended high school in Concord. Two of her three children were born at home– one in Concord and one in Pacheco (just one street up from where Angela lives today) making her commitment to community birth both professional and personal. She lives in Oakley, alongside her wife and children.

Community and Family Connections

Together, we not only work as midwives in Contra Costa County, but we also live as part of its fabric. Our partners work here, our children attend local schools, and our families are woven into the same neighborhoods we serve. We are members of both the Pleasant Hill and Lafayette Chamber of Commerce.

This shared history is part of what makes Aquarius Midwifery so unique. We’re not just licensed providers who commute in, we are neighbors, parents, and community members dedicated to the health and wellbeing of Contra Costa families.

As licensed midwives, we provide safe, evidence-based clinical care for pregnancy, homebirth, and postpartum recovery. Our licensure ensures that we’ve completed extensive training, passed rigorous examinations, and maintain ongoing continuing education.
