As midwives we believe that every family deserves care that is personal, respectful, and centered on their values. Unlike many medical systems where insurance companies often dictate the type and length of care you receive, midwifery care works differently. We are paid directly by our clients, which means our responsibility is to you, not an insurance company.
Why This Matters
When midwives work for their clients, care becomes truly individualized. Instead of following rigid protocols set by insurance or hospitals, we can take the time to:
- Offer longer appointments for meaningful conversations and education.
- Respect your choices about birth location, interventions, and support.
- Provide evidence-based guidance without unnecessary restrictions.
- Honor cultural traditions, personal preferences, and family needs.
This client centered model allows you to be the decision maker in your care. You set the priorities, and together we create a plan that feels safe, supportive, and empowering.
Insurance vs. Midwifery Care
In many healthcare settings, insurance companies determine:
- How often you can be seen.
- How long your visits last.
- Which tests or procedures are covered.
At Aquarius Midwifery, we flip that script. Because we are paid directly by the families we serve, you determine the care you want. Our role is to provide the information, options, and expertise to support your decisions.
Rooted in Contra Costa
As two of the few licensed midwives serving Contra Costa County, we bring not only clinical skills but also a deep commitment to this community where we were born, raised, and are raising our own families. We know this community and its people. Serving locally means we can offer care that is both accessible and deeply connected to the community’s values.
Putting Clients First
At its heart, midwifery care is about autonomy, safety, and respect. Families trust us because they know we are accountable to them not to outside systems. This makes space for birth and wellness care that is not only safe and evidence-based, but also personal, meaningful, and supportive.
At Aquarius Midwifery, you are the decision-maker. We are here to walk beside you, offering clinical care, education, and advocacy as you navigate pregnancy, birth, and beyond—always with your voice at the center.

How expensive would this be out of pocket? I’m trying to find a midwife, but I also need to be considerate of what I can afford without insurance covering anything. Are you able to give me any rough numbers? I don’t want any surprised that will stress me out even more..
